I had a few days in the Lakes walking with three university friends. On the Sunday we walked for 8 hours around 19 miles. The day was utterly glorious. It was full on walking. Straight up around 2,500 ft. I am not one of these ultra runners or anything like that but I realised I was in good fettle. I try and run three times a week for an hour. And the last time for the four of us were out was in May. We walked half of Coast to Coast. I was always the last one trailing. There was something about the sun, views, noise of rutting deer .. laughter with two of my oldest university friends. We all had this feeling that we were truly already in heaven. What could possibly be better. No need to fly. Just right here in our own backyard we have the perfect playground. And finally those old friendships never go away. Those bonds are there for ever .
